When you spend the time and energy cleaning your home, you should not worry about indoor air pollution and its impact on the environment. Unfortunately, many of the cleaning products commonly used to clean toilets, scrub tubs, and tackle other chores can be potentially harmful to you, your family, your pets, and the environment. The good news is that you can make your green cleaning products just as effective as store-bought solutions. In addition to being good for your health and the environment, DIY green cleaning products can be good for your wallet. Are you ready to learn how to make effective cleaning products at home?

Windows, Tile & Vinyl Floors, Carpets - White Vinegar and Water‍

White vinegar may not have the most pleasant smell, but its unique properties make it ideal for cutting through grease and disinfecting surfaces. You can spray it directly on windows to use in place of your current window cleaning product. You can also mix it with water before spraying it on your tile or vinyl floor for a mopping session. It even works well for removing some types of stains from the carpet. However, before using any new cleaning product on the carpet, always test it out on a discrete area before applying it liberally. Remember that you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to your vinegar bottle and water to improve the smell.

Sinks - Baking Soda and Vinegar‍

While vinegar has acidic properties, baking soda has basic properties that perfectly balance each other for overall great cleaning results. You can make a thick paste using baking soda and vinegar to apply on soap scum, the kitchen sink, and other filthy areas. Scrub the surface thoroughly before rinsing it with clean water.

Windows & Mirrors - Rubbing Alcohol, Cornstarch, and Vinegar‍

While you can use plain vinegar to clean the greasy smudges off of windows and mirrors, you can also get the sheen that you want with ease by making a concoction of equal parts vinegar and rubbing alcohol, a few cups of warm water, and a few tablespoons of cornstarch. Using a spray bottle and a microfiber cloth, clean the glass as you normally would.

Garbage Disposal Odor - Citrus Peels‍

Are you looking for DIY green cleaning products to tackle your grimy garbage disposal? Your garbage disposal can be a breeding ground for bacteria, foul odors, and other unpleasantries that you understandably do not want in your home. A great way to clean your garbage disposal is to toss a few citrus fruit rinds in it along with fresh water. If you get in the habit of doing this each time you eat an orange or cut a lime for your margaritas, you can stay on top of this chore without stress.

Pots & Pans - Dryer Sheets and Water‍

While you could use baking soda and water to scrub the greasy grime off of your pots and pans, a better option is available. Simply toss a dryer sheet into the pot or pan, and fill it up entirely with water. Allow the pot or pan to sit overnight. Then, use a spatula to remove the grime easily. If any remnants linger, you can reach for the baking soda and a scrub brush to do the rest of the work.

Enjoying a clean home should not require so much hard work and stress. Hiring a cleaning service that uses green products could be a fantastic option. The professionals at Elite Maids are always ready to lend a helping hand.
